This is a vintage Endongo, also known as a Ndongo or Entongoli, which is a type of lyre from Uganda, East Africa, and is considered the national instrument of the Baganda people of Uganda
The instrument features a bowl-shaped wooden soundbox covered with animal skin, often from a monitor lizard, has strings that extend from the soundbox to a crossbar (yoke) supported by two arms, and is decorated with cowrie shells.
This particular Endongo was made approximately during the 1980s and intended to serve as a beautiful tourist display piece.
