Traveling Man Treasures is selling this vintage Raku-fired Ikebana frog vase, designed for the Japanese art of flower arrangement. The vase is in excellent condition and hand marked with a symbol on the base as shown. These are used for Ikebana, which translates to "making flowers come alive," focusing on showcasing the entire plant, including stems and leaves, not just the blossoms.
This particular vase has a distinctive abstract, pebble-like or lentil shape with a central opening, including a kenzan (or flower frog) inside to hold the flower stems in place. The shallow, wide basin design of this type of vase is considered easy for beginners to use in traditional Ikebana, allowing for arrangements that emphasize horizontal lines and the interplay of flowers and water.
