This Grand Tour/Egyptian Revival period bronze scarab with hieroglyphics incised on the bottom is in immaculate condition with a beautifully aged patina.

Made between 1780-1920, this antique paperweight/decor piece was inspired by the Egyptian (Kheper) Scarab, which was an extremely popular icon in ancient Egypt due to its close connection with the Sun God, Ra.

Egyptian Grand Tour items were made between 1780s-1930s during the Egyptian Revival period that began when Napoleon defeated the British in the “Battle of The Nile.” These fine antique replicas were often made by the Egyptians themselves, but artisans from around the world enamored by Ancient Egyptian culture & architecture also followed suit.
