This antique Egyptian blue faience God Sobek statue is a fine demonstration of artisan craftsmanship and most likely used as a bedroom charm-like statuette.

Sobek was among the oldest deities named in the Pyramid Texts. Some ancient Egyptian sects believed Sobek created order in the universe and the world when he arose from the “Dark Water,” and was the creator of the Nile River. Sobek was also associated with fertility.

This piece was made by local Egyptians for affluent visitors who traveled to Egypt on educational "Grand Tours" of various archaeologically significant sites between 1780-1920s; a time also known as the "Egyptian Revival Period."

This Egyptian statuette is attested to as authentic and to have been made in Egypt during the “Grand Tour/Egyptian Revival” era by Mr Matthew Wicks of Ancient Hands, Ltd, and is accompanied by a digitally signed PDF copy of its "Provenance & Ownership" documentation.
