Antique Ayutthaya Bronze Seated Buddha

This is a stunning cast-bronze Ayutthaya style Buddha statue seated in the "earth-touching" pose. The Buddha sits on a simple lotus throne, with visible remains of the original overlaid gold gilding.

The intricate statue displays all the features of the Ayutthaya style: accentuated eyebrows, hanging eyelids, nicely outlined mouth and chin. The hairstyle consists of curled knots and the ushnisha, the typical oval at the top of the head of the Buddha. 

This is an excellent example of Buddha sculptures of the late Ayutthaya period, most likely from the later 18th to mid 19th century.
