This is a hand-carved stone ancient Egyptian artifact of the Goddess Sekhmet. She was depicted as having the body of a woman and the head of a lion and wearing a sun disk. Here, Sekhmet is unpainted and carved in "Shabti" form (appearing mummy-like) with hieroglyphics, and was either intended for personal funerary use or as home protection.

Sekhmet was the Ancient Egyptian Goddess of the hot desert sun, plague, chaos, war, and healing. Ra created her as a weapon to destroy humans for their disobedience to him and for not living in accordance with the principles of Ma’at. Sekhmet was also seen as the protector of the pharaohs and led them in warfare.

This ancient Egyptian artifact has been dated to between the Late Period to Alexander’s Conquest (c.664-332 B.C.) by Mr. Matthew Wicks of Ancient Hands LTD, and accompanied by a signed PDF copy of its “Provenance & Ownership” document. Alternatively, it may have been made in Egypt during the “Grand Tour/Egyptian Revival” period (1780s-1930s).
