Vintage Cat Statue | Ancient Egyptian Cat Goddess Bastet (Austin Prod. Inc. 1965)
This is a subtle & sleek reproduction of the ancient Egyptian temple Cat Goddess "Bastet" (c. 663-525 B.C.) cast by Austin Productions Inc. in 1965.
The statue is in great condition for its age (only a few minor nicks) and made of composite stone & plaster with a purple-black finish complemented by verdigris green highlights. The back is inscribed "AUSTIN PROD INC. 1965 ©" and mounted onto a wood base.
Bastet was the ancient Egyptian goddess of the home, domesticity, women's secrets, cats, fertility, and childbirth. She protected the home from evil spirits and disease, especially diseases associated with women and children. As with many deities in ancient Egyptian religion, Bastet also played a role in the afterlife.
